英文谚语（十一）

每一种语言都有传递其文化内涵和智慧的谚语，具有悠久历史的中文自不必说，但西方的英语虽然历史不长，却同样有很多谚语或歇后语，蕴含着生活的哲理和智慧。

　　

一、 No gains without pains. （No pains, no gains）

意思是没有不劳而获的事，不劳则无获。（人不付出，何来收获。）

二、 Birth is much, but breeding is more.

意思指教养、比门第出身更重要（出生好固然重要，配合好的家庭教养栽培就更出色了。）中国传统的教养体现在儒家的“仁、义、礼、智、信”中，古人也以琴棋书画来陶冶情操。
