【大纪元2020年12月04日讯】Hook是钩子，这里是指钓鱼用的鱼钩，所以这个说法是一种形容。一条鱼被鱼钩挂住了，那它就有大麻烦了，但是如果你把鱼从鱼钩上拿下去，那它可能就不会有麻烦了。

所以let/get someone off the hook的意思就是让人摆脱困境、避免麻烦。

例句：At first, Sam was suspected of stealing money from the safe, but he was let off the hook after security camera footage showed it was someone else.

开始的时候，有人怀疑是Sam从保险柜偷钱了，但是当监控摄像显示是别人干的之后，他摆脱了麻烦。◇
